DHH is raving about Grok 4.6. He said prior versions of Grok were quite disappointing, but 4.6 really is a game changer for him. He said it completes tasks extremely fast and is much cheaper than comparable models. While it is not as powerful as Fable, especially when it comes to planning, Grok 4.6 is highly capable for implementing and currently offers great value for the money. Compared with OpenAI’s Sol 5.6, he again mentioned that Grok 4.6 is much faster and a lot cheaper while almost matching the quality.
I’ve been personally working a lot with Grok 4.6, and while I find it really falls short on any design tasks compared to Sol 5.6 or Claude Opus 5, it is extremely cost-efficient at a lot of tasks, and it allows me to do all kinds of work without feeling a latent sense of token-spend anxiety. You can just go wild with Grok 4.6, trying all kinds of stuff, and it feels pleasantly freeing to work with it because it’s so cheap, while still doing really great work, except for design stuff!
